Fashion & Textile Children's Trust

Anna Pangbourne, CEO of the FTCT commented, “Many families across the UK are being squeezed by the wider cost of living pressures; including those that work in the fashion and textile sector. Our survey shows just how little flexibility many household budgets have, particularly for those with dependent children. Uniform costs are simply the most visible part of that picture; the families going into debt to cover them, aren’t at fault.

Industry parents’ experiences are central to the campaign. A recent survey by FTCT, reflecting the views of parents and carers in the UK fashion and textile industry, revealed:

  • Nearly half (47%) of parents surveyed have sent their child to school in clothes that no longer fit, because buying new was not possible.
  • Two-thirds (66%) have used credit plans to fund uniform, because they had no better option.
  • 47% of parents in our survey find balancing work and family during summer difficult or unmanageable.

The campaign aims to beat its previous fundraising total of £5,000, and the FTCT is encouraging involvement and advocacy from companies, employees and individuals across the industry to help make this possible.

  • The campaign runs from Wednesday 1st July to Friday 31st July.
  • The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust is the only organisation dedicated to supporting parents and carers who work in the UK fashion and textile industry.
  • The Trust funds grants for children’s essential items, including clothing, bedding, and white goods.
  • Additionally, they fund specialist equipment and mobility equipment for children with health needs.
  • The Trust was originally founded in 1853 by a group of textile merchants.
